About Me:
I am Dianne, a person-centred therapist based in Renfrewshire in the West of Scotland. My original path to becoming a therapist came about due to my own positive experience of receiving therapy for chronic anxiety and depression. My more recent focus on working largely with neurodivergent clients has coincided with my own understanding of myself as a neurodivergent person, with the barriers and challenges that this presents.
Those of us who have lived much of our lives with an understanding of ourselves as faulty neurotypical people have a lot to adjust to with this new aspect of our identity. I don’t seek to fundamentally change my clients, as you are more than good enough. Instead I can help with the process of understanding the masking, compensating and prioritising the needs of others above our own that swallows so much of our time and energy.
Person-centred therapy is grounded in the belief that clients are the experts in their own experience. What many clients have in common, whether they are neurodivergent, have diverse gender, sexuality or relationships, are survivors of trauma, abuse or bullying or are living with disabilities or chronic health conditions, is the fact there are many people who disbelieve or diminish their experiences.
